Diagnostics
To establish the correct diagnosis and prescribe an effective treatment, very often various diagnostic procedures are required. In the departments of KinderKlinik, you can always take an ECG, electroencephalography (EEG) and have ultrasonography of various organs done, including neurosonography and ultrasound of the heart – echocardiography (EchoCG).

Ultrasound diagnostics (sonography, medical ultrasound)
This is a painless, quick and very effective method of diagnostics, which in most cases lets the doctor fully assess the structure of the organ, and sometimes even its functions.
What is an ultrasound diagnostic?
The ultrasound takes into account the fact, that different tissues of the organism absorb and reflect the ultrasound waves differently. Every organ normally has its specific “density”, which tends to change, if the organ is ill. In addition to that, the ultrasound shows, in what direction the fluids in your body flow. This means, it allows to track the blood flow in the vessels or, for instance, the flow of urine through the ureters.
Do I have to prepare for the ultrasound?
Before the medical ultrasound you might need an additional preparation. You will be informed about it in detail by the operators of our contact center (if signed up for an ultrasound diagnostics)
Neurosonography
This is the ultrasound of the brain, which is performed in the early age, when the infant’s fontanels haven’t yet closed. Neurosonography is one of the safest, quickest and most painless diagnostic method, which is used in order to detect the pathology of the nervous system as early as possible.
When would a doctor prescribe the neurosonography?
- Complicated pregnancy and childbirth
- Suspected intrauterine infection
- Low Apgar score (7 to 1)
- Low or too high birth weight
- Infants with pathological symptoms of the nervous system (determined by the doctor!)
- Excessive and frequent regurgitation
- Unreasonable cry
- Prolonged jaundice in the newborns
- Unusual form of the head and an increase of its circumference above the norm
What diseases does neurosonography help to identify?
Hydrocephalus, hematomas and cysts of the brain, as well as some other structural abnormalities of the brain. Early detection of the disorders allows to prescribe the prompt and competent treatment.
Ultrasonography of the abdominal cavity
This is one of the most effective methods for determining the location, size, structure and condition of the internal organs: kidney, spleen, liver and biliary tract, pancreas and gall bladder. Ultrasonography of the abdominal organs in children is also useful for the detection of calculi (stones) and volume formations (tumors, vascular malformations, etc.). And ultrasound also allows, although to a limited extent, to evaluate the function of certain organs, for example, the presence of reflux in the ureters or the stomach of a child, passability of the pylorus, the contractile function of the gall bladder.
The ultrasound diagnostic of the hip joint
This is a safe screening diagnostic procedure, which helps to detect the disorders of hip joint development in children.
When can a doctor prescribe the ultrasound of the hip joints in children under 1 year?
- pelvic presentation of the fetus
- small or, otherwise, large birth weight, birth injury
- obvious asymmetry of the lower limbs of the child
- the presence of pathology of the hip joints in the family
